Once dusk has hit, take out your bat detectors. You can use it anywhere: your backyard, a city park, your farm, or when out camping.

For best results, think like a bat. Where do bats like to go? Everyone needs to drink, so bats are often heard over water like dugouts, creeks or lakes. They also like the cover of trees to stay out of site of predators like owls. An area with trees and water is likely to have bats!

Don't worry, the detector is easy to use. We provide all the instructions on how to use the echometer, and how to interpret the data.

At this moment, the echometer is only compatible with USB-C Android devices.

Collaboration is a big part of being a scientist. We want to collaborate with you, our citizen scientists.

By telling us what bats you heard and where, it can help us gain an understanding about where bats live in Saskatchewan. After you've gone out batting, return home and upload your ultrasound audio files to your computer. Then, upload those files to us through a portal (website) and we will look through what bats you identified.

Your data will help us learn about and conserve endangered bats across Saskatchewan.
